To the Editor:

I would like to respond to a recent Mount Vernon News article, dated Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021. The article spurred additional comments stating that I left Knox Community Hospital in June, 2021. This is not true. I have notified Mount Vernon News and KCH of the error. I greatly thank the numerous people who brought the article to my attention and those who have inquired about my well being. I am doing great!

I began a 90-day work notice in June 2021. I have worked many shifts since then on both nights and days. I most recently worked on the day shift, Aug. 30 and 31. During that time, I was not able to safely adhere to the hospital’s new, day-long, strict N95 mask policy. Therefore, they kindly provided me with an enclosed mask structure and oxygen feed.

Shortly after this, I was told that I did not need to return and work out my remaining scheduled days. This was presented to me as good news. Dr. John Hall, the new CMO, kindly demonstrated sincerity and kindness over the phone as he acknowledged my need for adequate time to focus on subsequent endeavors. He also informed me that I would receive pay throughout that time. I continue to have insurance benefits up until 10/9/2021.

Although I am extremely grateful to have a little time off, I regret not being able to say goodbye to my coworkers and colleagues. I have worked at KCH for over 10 years and each year has been a blessing. I have truly enjoyed working with so many wonderful people. And it has been a pleasure as well as an honor to care for and serve the people of Knox County, Ohio.

God bless you,

Laura Murnane, MD

Mount Vernon

Editor's Note: the correction in the Sept. 15 edition incorrectly states that Dr. Murnane said she received the 90-day courtesy notice for the termination of her employment; she never indicated if the notice was given or received by her.
