Senior golfer Peyton Broce is expected to lead the MVNU Lady Cougars team on the links this season.

After a season of growth and some strong individual performances, the Mount Vernon Nazarene Lady Cougars started the 2021 season on Sept. 6 in the Battle at Brookwood in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Lady Cougars finished fifth at Brookwood, finishing with a two-round score of 658. Taylor University claimed the Battle at Brookwood title with a score of 608.

Leading MVNU on the course was Peyton Broce. Broce finished last year strong as she made the Crossroads League All-Tournament Team. The senior also received Crossroads League honors, making the Crossroads League Honorable Mention Team.

Broce, a senior communication sciences & disorders major, and freshman Isabela Carvajal Rios, a business major, each turned in strong performances for the Lady Cougars. Each finished with a score of 153, which was good for a fifth-place tie within the entire field.

Senior Katie Bruursema finished tied for 25th with a final score of 171, senior Kate Von Handorf finished 35th overall with a score of 181 and freshman Elaine Kirkbride came in 38th with a score of 191.
