“We offer a quick phone screen conducted by one of our skilled nurses to go over a person’s medical and family history, symptoms, medications, etc.,” said Amber Jordan, BSN, RN, director of the department of primary and specialty care. “We capture all the information we need without the patient having to come in for a paid office visit when eligible.”
“Once a person is deemed eligible, paperwork is sent to their home that includes directions for the procedure preparation, and a scheduler follows up to book the date of the procedure. If an office visit would be most beneficial for the person, a quick referral is sent and they are able to be easily scheduled with one of our surgeons,” she added.
Early detection of most types of cancers leads to better patient outcomes and higher cure rates. Colonoscopies and endoscopies are performed by Knox Community Hospital general surgeons under full sedation with the use of CO2 instead of air, which greatly decreases uncomfortable bloating and gas afterward.
