The previous newspaper article was about the Knox County Fair Horticulture Show. Now is the time to discuss the Knox County Fair Artistic Flower Show, coming Thursday, July 29, 2021. The Artistic Flower Show is sponsored by the Knox County Garden Clubs and open to the world.

Thursday, July 29, is the Artistic Design Show, “Our 2021 Floral Olympics.” No prior reservations are necessary and entry fee is the purchase of a Season Pass or the payment of fifty cents per entry. It is best to purchase your Season Pass or pay the entry fee per exhibit before the day of the show. You have to have an exhibitor’s number when you enter. If you have the exhibitor’s number ahead of time, it prevents standing in line at the Secretary’s Office and confusion at the show entry table. Show schedules are available at the Secretary’s Office.

Entries are accepted from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. on July 29. Entries are to be removed Sunday, August 1, at 1 p.m. The exhibitor may make only one entry per class. Each design must be accompanied by an entry tag, a 3-by-5 card listing all plant material used in the design, and a 3-by-5 card for an interpretive design. Have your entry tag filled out ahead before reaching the show.

Judging, open to all, is at 1 p.m. on July 29. The judge will be giving oral comments. This is the time to learn.

Read the show schedule carefully. Study what is asked for each artistic design entry. If you don’t understand, ask. If you need more information, contact j.graham@embarqmail.com.

The theme of the artistic show this year is “Our 2021 Floral Olympics.” Each class title is the name of an Olympic event. There are two sections in the flower show. The first section is for amateurs, any individual, garden club member or master gardener. The second section is to all of them plus master gardeners, professional designers, student judges, or judges. You do not have to be a garden club member or master gardener to enter. There are traditional designs and creative designs.

The schedule explains many of the creative designs. If creative designs are new to you and you need more information, contact j.graham@embarqmail.com. For garden club members, the new Exhibitors and Judges Handbook explains each one.

If you are a first time exhibitor, “Artistic Gymnastics” maybe the one to try. Past exhibitors asked if we could have a class with no rules. No restrictions. Do your own thing. Fresh, dried, dried painted or treated material allowed. Interpretation card is needed beside the design.

Another class might be “2021 Olympics,” an interpretive design of an Olympic event. Can be featured in another class or event you would like to interpret. You do not have to follow the guidelines another class ask you to do. Fresh, dried, painted dried, or treated material allowed. Interpretation card is needed beside the design.

Do not want to do a design on a table? “Basketball” is the one for you. A wreath using fresh, dried, dried painted material, or treated dried material or a combination of plant material. Ribbons and accessories are allowed. Must be ready to hang on a peg board.

Even if you do not plan to enter the show, come and visit the show. See what Knox County floral designers are arranging this summer.
