MOUNT VERNON – Bonnie C. Lawhon, 77, of Mount Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 19, 2021, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer.
Bonnie was born in Piqua, Ohio, on August 19, 1943, to the late James and Lila Jean (Lidderdale) Campbell. She grew up in Ohio; New Zealand and Helena, Arkansas; where she married William T. Lawhon Jr. on February 15, 1964. Bonnie taught first- and second grade for 24 years in the Worthington, Ohio; Memphis, Tennessee; and Knox County, Tennessee, school systems until her retirement in 2003.
Bonnie was a member of Knox Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon, where she found joy interacting with the families there. She enjoyed various Bible studies and welcoming new people to her church. Bonnie loved living on her farm — hunting for salamanders with her grandchildren, raising goats, gardening and watching sunsets with her husband and cat, Sherman. Bill and Bonnie hosted numerous community events, neighborhood parties, tree farm conventions and scout activities at the farm. Bonnie rode over 100 miles on the wagon train in Ohio’s Bicentennial Celebration in 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Bill (married 57 years); daughters, Laurie Wright (Tim) of Columbus and Sara Lawhon (Ryan Rupp) of Mount Vernon; son, Bill Lawhon III of Copley; grandchildren, Miranda Lawhon of Columbus; Erin, Seth, Gina, Pete and Adam Lawhon of Mount Vernon; and William, Wiley and Hayes Lawhon of Copley; sister-in-law, Donna Spinks of Mount Vernon; and brothers, Jim (Diana) Campbell of Sarasota, Florida; Ric (Cathy) Campbell of Helena, Arkansas; and Chris (Kim) Campbell of Greer, South Carolina.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Amanda Lawhon.
A memorial service will be held at Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050; at noon on Saturday, June 26, with Pastor Jeremy Logan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bonnie’s memory to Starting Point, 11 Woodlake Trail, Mount Vernon, OH 43050; or Knox Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 202 Spruce St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
