MOUNT VERNON – Joe Berry, 64, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at his residence. He was born on April 8, 1957, in Mount Vernon, to the late Carl and Lillian “Squirt” (Mauler) Berry.
Joe worked at TRW, Ver-Mac and PACs in Mount Vernon. He was a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge #2555 in Mount Vernon for many years. Joe loved drag racing, NASCAR, camping and attending the Bluegrass Festival in Loudonville. He was known as the “Turkey Man” for his love of deep-fried turkeys. He loved hosting the annual hog roast and entertaining his friends. Most of all, Joe loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by the love of his life and soul mate, Mira (Whited) Berry; sons, Todd Bechtel and Brian Bechtel; grandchildren, Ian, Claire and Jordyn Bechtel; a brother, Doug Berry; sister, Roxanne Berry; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Dan Berry.
A celebration of life service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
