To the Editor:
Memorial Day
Each year Americans celebrate the popular holiday Memorial Day, an honor for those who served in the military and took the ultimate sacrifice for our country. For this occasion, Mount Vernon holds a parade on the day of the event. Brandon also has a parade on Sunday that includes a reciting of the pledge and inspiring speech and the 21-gun salute performed by the Honor Guard. Therefore, the lost and the living are honored on this day. They are remembered.
We practice this holiday to respect and remember the ones who went to war. They fought knowing the waiting jaws of possible death and still walked on that battlefield, head held high, and fought for me and my generation, for you and our elders, and for the good of the country. And that’s why, I believe, we honor and celebrate the veterans of the past, present and near future.
Memorial Day will always be a remembered day as our veterans will always be close in our hearts. From family to neighbors, there is always someone who will stand for you and our country. I am free and American, and proud to say so.
