MOUNT VERNON – Marvin L. Moore, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away Monday morning, June 7, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Nov. 12, 1929, in Alexandria to the late Franklin L. and Ruth (Ewing) Moore.

Marvin honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion in Centerburg; and on Oct. 20, 2012, he was part of the Honor Flight. Marvin attended the Milford Church of Christ. He was a 75-year member of the Monroe Dan Emmett Grange, where he was currently serving as the deaf chairman and overseer. He was a former member of the Knox County Pomona Grange and a lifetime member of the National Grange. 

At the age of 75, Marvin started playing the banjo. He enjoyed western square dancing, delivering food baskets for the food pantry and volunteering at the Senior Center in Centerburg.

He is survived by his children, Preston (Mary) Moore and Pam (Tim) Evans; grandchildren, Ben Moore, Rose Moore, Sarah (Josh) Dayton, Marc Evans, Cynthia (Corey) Johnson, Geoffrey Lee and Melissa Hamilton; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Strayer; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of over 58 years, Catherine Joan Moore in 2017; a daughter, Amy Carver; a sister, Evelyn; and brothers, Kenneth, Loyal, Richard and Carl.

The family will receive friends from 5–8 p.m. on Monday, June 14, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road in Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, with Minister Doug Brandon officiating. Marvin will be laid to rest beside his wife, Catherine, in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
