Kenyon College student-athletes Sam Hosmer-Quint and Sebastian Gaese were named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District VII Men's Soccer Team as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, June 4.
Typically, Academic All-District honorees are selected based on academics as well as current season statistics. Since the 2020 fall campaign was wiped out by the pandemic, CoSIDA tentatively adjusted selection criteria to be based on career accomplishments rather than just the current season.
To meet eligibility requirements, a nominee had to be at least of sophomore standing and had to possess at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average. Nominations for CoSIDA's District VII came from all NCAA Division III institutions in the states of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
Hosmer-Quint, a defender, played 54 games over three seasons with the Lords. During that time, the program posted a combined record of 53-6-8, won three North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) titles and made appearances in three NCAA Division III Tournaments. In that same three-year span, the Kenyon defense allowed an average of just 0.66 goals per game. Hosmer-Quint, who was previously named to the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, also added offensive career numbers that included five goals and four assists. At the conclusion of his junior season, he was named to the 2019 All-NCAC first team.
Gaese, who was a sophomore in that 2019 season, was also selected for all-conference honors, landing a spot on the All-NCAC second team. He is a forward who has played in 39 games over the last two seasons of play and was a part of two NCAC titles and two NCAA appearances. He tallied three goals and two assists during his first season and then returned to log six goals and three assists as a sophomore.
In the classroom, Hosmer-Quint majors in both history and Spanish, while Gaese majors in neuroscience. With their All-District awards in hand, both student-athletes are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America voting, which occurs later this month.
