MOUNT VERNON – Kim Comer (Payne), of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully at the age of 63 while with hospice at Licking Memorial Hospital on May 21, 2021.

Kim is survived by her children, Matthew Rutter, Shane (Tara) Comer, Jaime (Jeff) Endsley and Jason Comer; eight grandchildren; nieces, Karen (Kevin) Steinmetz and Wendy (Mike) Fry, as well as many grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews; her sisters, Kathy (Rick) Gilmore and Chris Rummel; her brother, Thomas Miller and another sibling, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Naomi Payne; a brother, Johney Payne; sisters, Linda Newman and Susan Miller; and a nephew, Dale Payne.

Kim was born on June 30, 1957, and was adopted by Lloyd and Naomi Payne. She spent most of her life working as an accountant and HR representative. Kim welcomed her son Matthew on Jan. 22, 1990, and through marriage welcomed her three other children Shane, Jaime and Jason.

Kim was an avid camper and spent many of her younger years camping with her parents, as well as her adulthood with much of her family and close friends. She was a longtime member of the Eagles and the Moose and enjoyed spending free time there with friends and family as well. She was a very devoted football fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns and loved attending games. She spent a lot of time in her life traveling to a variety of places and had intended on spending her retirement traveling to national parks throughout the United States.

Kim was a recent cancer survivor. Through her fight with cancer, she became very spiritual and found Christ and found comfort and peace through her spirituality. Kim loved and cared deeply for her family and many friends and was loved and cared for just as equally. She was an exceptional woman and will surely be missed by her friends, family and those who knew her.

A special thank you goes out to Jaque Harding-Thompson and all those who helped Kim through her treatments during her fight with cancer. So many people made it as easy for her as it could have been, and for that Kim was eternally thankful.

There will be a celebration of life from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 29 at the Colonial City Moose Lodge, located at 417 W. High St. in Mount Vernon. Flowers are absolutely welcomed, but if you would like to send something other than flowers, Kim would be very happy for you to give a donation to Hospice of Central Ohio.
