MOUNT VERNON – Alice G. Engle, 63, of Mount Vernon, peacefully passed away on Friday morning, May 21, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on Jan. 9, 1958, in Millersport to the late Jerome and Rita (Bonifas) Kilbarger.
Alice graduated as salutatorian at Millersport High School in 1976 and attended Capital University, where she met her husband, Michael. They married on December 16, 1978. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Wright State University and became a certified public accountant, working for firms in Ohio, Oklahoma and Colorado. After retiring in Mount Vernon, she was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir.
Alice enjoyed gardening, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She always remembered to send birthday- and anniversary cards, and she always had time to laugh and love.
She is survived by her husband, Michael V. Engle; sons, Christopher (Tara) Engle of Laramie, Wyoming, and Matthew Engle of Mount Vernon; daughter, Elizabeth (Pedro Degiovanni) Engle of Somerville, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Edward and Iszabelle; sister, Teresa (Jerry) Daniels of Rushville; brothers, Roger (Mary) Kilbarger and Paul (Nancy) Kilbarger of Millersport, and David Kilbarger of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Kilbarger.
The family will receive friends from 5–7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St. in Mount Vernon. A prayer service will follow the visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Daniel Olvera as the Celebrant. Alice will be laid to rest in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Mount Vernon. Masks will be required at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alice’s favorite charity, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society c/o Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
