Johnson leads Mount Gilead to KMAC track and field title

SPARTA – Allison Johnson won four championships and the Mount Gilead track and field teams swept the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference championships on Tuesday, May 11, at Highland High School in Sparta.

Johnson won the 100-meter hurdles (14.74 seconds), the 400 (1:01.39), the 800 (2:20.99) and the 1,600-meter run (5:15.0).

The Mount Gilead girls team, which added a pair of relay wins, won the title with 148 points, beating out host Highland (135), Fredericktown (130), East Knox (62), Northmor (51), Cardington (50), Centerburg (49) and Danville (24).

The MG boys team put in a solid overall effort, but it was the 4x200 relay team that won with a time of 1:35.95, led by Kyan Davis, Quade Harris, Seamus Walsh and Matthew Bland. Storm McGinniss, Owen High, Davis and Harris took the 4x100 (46.33); and Michael Snopik won the 800 (2:03.08).

MG (149) edged out the Fighting Scots (147), the Freddies (88), the Trojans (82), the Golden Knights (65), the Bulldogs (58), the Pirates (40) and the Blue Devils (32).

Olivia Millisor, Selia Shipman, Michaela McGill and Emily Hanft took the 4x800 (10:31.51); Madilyn Elson, Asia Jones, Grace Mowery and Isabela Schroeter won the 4x200 (1:53.74), and McGill finished first in the 3,200 (11:51.26) for MG.

Landyn Albanese and Juliette Laracuente led Highland.

Albanese won four events: the 100 (11.29), the 200 (23.25), the 400 (52.36) and the long jump (20-10.5). Laracuente added three more wins in the 100 (12.74), the high jump (5-6.25) and the long jump (16-11.25).

Landon Remmert was a part of three wins for the Scots. He won the 110-hurdles (16.06), the 300-hurdles (42.86) and teamed with Gavin Hankins, Joel Roberts and Mason Duncan in the 4x400 (3:36.52).

Highland’s girls team got a win in the shot put by Alexis Eusey (32-3.75) to go with a pair of relay wins.

Cassidy Wickham, Makenna Belcher, Peyton Carpenter and Brylinn Tuggle won the 4x100 (54.0); and Mia White, Isabelle Arnett-Tomasek, Belcher and Mackenzie Blubaugh took the 4x400.

Ashley Cockrell won the 300-hurdles (48.85) and Sydney Wilson won the pole vault (8-6) to lead the Fredericktown girls team. Steven Tumbleson took home a title in the pole vault (11-6) for the Freddie boys.

Centerburg’s Ben Riegel won both throwing events, taking the discus (152-9) and the shot put (54-8). Chloe Goulter won the 200 (27.5) for the Trojan girls team.

Chase Darr took the high jump (5-8); and Nathan Streby, Dillon Moreland, Samuel Whitney and Scott Bates won the 4x800 (8:30.91) for East Knox. Streby was also second in the 800 (2:04.1).

For the Bulldog girls team, Alexandria Magers was second in the 400 (1:03.33) and Emily Opfer was second in the shot put (30-10.5).

Mason White led the Cardington boys team with wins in the 1,600 (4:29.29) and the 3,200 (9:59.82).

Loey Hallibrin was second in the 800 (2:25.38) and Hazel Joliff was second in the long jump (15-0.75) to lead the Pirate girls team.

Kahlen Bell took home a title in the discus (93-9), and Rachel Ervin was second in the 100 (11.61) and the pole vault (8-0) to lead the Northmor girls team. PJ Lower was second in the long jump (19-9.25) for the Knight boys team.

Danville was led by Nathan Butts, Aiden Bell, Dillon Looney and Jackson Lloyd, who finished second in the 4x100 (46.35); and by Alenah Boeshart with a third-place finish in the 100 (13.57).
