Kaitlyn Tenzos had three hits and three RBIs to lead host Centerburg to a 7-2 win over Fairbanks in the first round of the Division III district tournament on Monday, May 10.
Tenzos drove in Amelia Smith, who led off with a single, on a groundout to give the 10th-seeded Trojans a 1-0 lead. She added an RBI double in the third inning to push the lead to 3-0, then capped the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth.
Smith was also solid with two hits, three runs and two RBIs.
Shelby Morris allowed the 11th-seeded Panthers two unearned runs on four hits and two walks over seven innings. She struck out four batters for Centerburg, which travels to third-seeded Elgin in the second round on Wednesday.
Danville 10, East Knox 9 (10)
Camie Newbold completed the comeback with a three-run homer in the seventh inning to send the game to extras. Then Maddy Wine hit a walk-off single to lift host Danville to a 10-9 win over rival East Knox in a Knox Morrow Athletic Conference game on Monday, May 10.
Newbold went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs; and Jaylyn Smith and Taryn Mickley, who scored the game winner, each added three hits for the Blue Devils, who scored three runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to tie.
Bailey Comer and Gracie Sheasby had three hits apiece, Cami Bailey and Nataley Hull each drove in a pair of runs and Shanda Melick scored twice for the Bulldogs, who rallied for six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.
Loudonville 8, East Knox 7
Payton VanSickle tied the game with an RBI single and scored the game winner on Morgan McClure’s sacrifice fly as host Loudonville beat East Knox 8-7 in non-league play on Saturday, May 8.
Karena Burgess and Emma Carney had two hits each to lead the Redbirds.
Natalie Smith had three hits — one a home run — and scored three runs, and Shanda Melick had two hits — both triples — and drove in three runs to lead the Bulldogs.
Barons sweep Freddies
Liz Hamilton and Anika Craft combined to allow just one run in two games, helping Buckeye Valley sweep host Fredericktown in non-league play on Saturday, May 8.
Hamilton struck out 15 batters and allowed five hits and a walk in a complete-game 7-0 win in the opener.
Hamilton and Whitney Stuart had three hits apiece for the Barons, who took the lead with a three-run second inning.
Craft struck out nine batters in a complete game to lead Buckeye Valley to an 8-1 win in Game 2.
Alexa Richardson had three hits and scored twice, and Lilly Irvine drove in two runs on two hits to lead the Barons, who scored four runs in the first inning.
Johnstown 8, Utica 1
Grace Branstool went 4-for-4 to lead visiting Johnstown to an 8-1 win at Utica in LCL play on Friday, May 7, at South End Park.
Dakota Staffen had three RBIs, two on a homer in the fourth inning. She struck out six and allowed one earned run in a complete game in the circle.
Fredericktown 9, East Knox 4
Taylor Overholt had three hits, three runs and two RBIs to lead visiting Fredericktown to a 9-4 win at East Knox in KMAC play on Friday, May 7, in Howard.
Miranda Payne, Hannah LeFevre and Jesenia Montalvo each had two hits and a run for the Freddies. Payne allowed three earned runs and struck out seven in a complete game to notch the win.
Cami Bailey went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Natalie Smith had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Bulldogs, who rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
