MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon News SpecTrackular runs for the 41st time on Friday, May 7, after a one-year absence.
The event has a new home as Mount Vernon High School hosts for the first time since 2014.
SpecTrackular features athletes from Mount Vernon, Centerburg, Danville, East Knox, Fredericktown, Highland, Utica, Clear Fork, Johnstown and Northridge.
SpecTrackular starts with a bang — the boys pole vault at 5 p.m. All eight entrants in the event have leaped higher than 11 feet at one point throughout the season, led by Clear Fork’s Ethan Staley at 14-6.
Fredericktown has hosted SpecTrackular since 2015, but the lights at Yellow Jacket Stadium allow for events to have a later start time. Admission is unlimited and is $5 at the gate.
The rest of the field events are set to begin at 5:30 p.m., and the running events will commence at 7 p.m.
Ben Riegel highlights the boys throwers, leading the pack in both the shot put (56-11.5) and the discus (161-7).
Mount Vernon’s Erich Rhodeback tops the field in the long jump (21-1) and is second behind Johnstown’s Josh Potter (6-4) in the high jump.
Rhodeback also leads in both hurdle events. He ran a time of 14.24 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 38.66 in the 300-hurdles.
Juliette Laracuente highlights the girls jumping events, leading the field in the long jump (17-7) and tied with Sydney Koker of Northridge in the high jump (5-6).
Fredericktown’s Sydney Wilson leads all in the pole vault (9-0), Clear Fork’s Bekah Conrad leads in the shot put (36-11) and Mount Vernon’s Stella Bainbridge leads in the discus (111-11.75).
Centerburg’s Chloe Goulter, the reigning SpecTrackular Most Valuable Competitor, leads the field in the 100-meter dash (12.85).
Mount Vernon’s Amaris Middleton has the best time in the 200-meter (26.8).
Johnstown’s Reece Savage is tops in a pair of distance running events: the 1,600 (5:13.83) and the 3,200 (11:37.76).
Northridge’s Olyvia Ashbrook leads the field in both hurdles, the 100 (15.8) and the 300 (47.11).
In the boys running events, Landyn Albanese of Highland tops the sprints in 100 (11.04) and 200 (22.75).
Cross country state champion Thomas Caputo of Fredericktown owns the lead in the 3,200 (9:41.95), and Utica’s Jay Figgins tops the 1,600 (4:35.12).
In middle distances, Elijah Carpenter of Northridge leads the way in the 400 (51.18), and Yellow Jacket Logan Eggert tops the field in the 800 (2:01.25).
The relays feature the top team from eight schools, though teams may be shuffled around on SpecTrackular day.
Mount Vernon owns the lead in three of the four events. The team of Jack Craigo, Dylan Dowell, Damion Blubaugh and Bryce Wiles’ time of 44.57 is the best in the 4x100. Rhodeback, Blubaugh, Wiles and Dowell’s time of 1:33.0 tops the 4x200; and Dowell, Matt Salvucci, Blubaugh and Rhodeback lead in the 4x400 (3:31.77).
The 4x800 team is from Fredericktown, with Caputo, Owen Krabill, Xavier Platt and Titus Krabill running a time of 8:26.82.
In the girls relays, Highland is first in two of the four events. The team of Brylinn Tuggle, Makenna Belcher, Peyton Carpenter and Laracuente is tops in the 4x100 (51.85); and the team of Carpenter, Mackenzie Blubaugh, Audrey Weaver and Laracuente leads in the 4x200 (1:52.66).
Mount Vernon’s Alexis Strong, Sara Phillips, Emma Rinehart and Marissa Rutter lead in the 4x400 (4:19.14); and Johnnies Savage, Lauren Ellis, Landen Davis and Anna Hazelbaker are atop the 4x800 (10:40.0).
