MOUNT VERNON – Knox County Career Center’s JROTC finished third overall in the Raider Competition held recently at Wayne High School in Dayton.
The Raider Competition has a variety of events including a 2.5-mile relay run, heavy-vehicle rope pull, tire flip, heavy-object carry, equipment obstacle course and rope-bridge crossing.
The highlight of the day was the rope-bridge crossing, Lt. Col. Chris Salvucci said. Students are required to cross a 60-foot simulated river with nothing more than 120 feet of rope for the team, 14-foot sections of rope for each team member and mountain-climbing carabiners.
“This competition was a great opportunity this year when many other student activities are being cancelled,” Salvucci said. “We learned a lot, passed corporate knowledge from seniors to underclassmen, and we are already looking forward to next year.
“We are optimistic we can close the gap between ourselves and the elite teams from around the state and around the country.”
