Roundup: Jackets set pair of school records at Robinson Relays

Two teams set school records to lead the Mount Vernon track and field team at Lakewood’s Sarah Robinson Relays on Friday, April 23, in Hebron.

Dominic Fascaldo, Logan Taylor, Mitchell Taylor and Erich Rhodeback won the 4x110 shuttle hurdle with a time of 1 minute, 4.68 seconds; and Dylan Dowell, Damion Blubaugh, Bryce Wiles and Rhodeback won the 800-sprint medley with a time of 1:36.12.

Both times were good enough to set new school records, leading the Yellow Jackets’ boys track and field team to a meet victory with 94 points, besting seven other teams.

The girls team (75 points) finished second out of eight teams, edged only by Liberty Union (77).

Dowell, Blubaugh, Ethan Young and Rhodeback took first in the 4x400-meter relay (3:33.43); and Dowell and Blubaugh teamed with Jack Craigo, and Bryce Wiles to take first in the 4x100 (44.67).

Sarah Phillips, Elizabeth Miller, Amaris Middleton and McKenna Brokaw took first in the 800-sprint medley (1:58.26) to lead the girls team.

Kallner Invitational

Ben Riegel won two events and Alex Hayden added a third to lead Centerburg at the 28th annual Kallner Invitational on Saturday, April 24, at Hamilton Township High School in Columbus.

Riegel won the shot put (56 feet, 1 inch) and the discus (161-7). The Trojans also had second-place finishes in those events, with Ian McKnight in the shot put (46-9) and Mason Lawthorn in the discus (138-3).

Alex Hayden won the 3,200-meter (10:22.89) for Centerburg (78 points), which finished fourth out of eight teams, behind winner Gahanna Lincoln (192.25).

The 4x800 team of Hayden, Travis Thomas, Greg Beard and Gavin Wright finished second (8:56.02); and Wright took third in the 800-meter (2:10.89).

The Trojans’ girls team (27) ended up seventh out of eight teams, behind the Lions (202.5), who swept the meet.

Avery Tucker finished third in the 800-meter (2:34.23).

Gerald Swankhouse Invitational

Ashley Cockrell and Titus Krabill each won an event to lead Fredericktown at the Gerald Swankhouse Invitational on Saturday, April 24, at Upper Sandusky High School.

Cockrell was first in the 100-meter hurdles (17.21) and Krabill won the 3,200 (10:19.65).

The Freddies were second (107) out of seven teams in the girls meet and fourth (74.5) in the boys meet. Lexington swept both, with 183 points in girls and 136 points in boys.

Cockrell also finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (51.48) and the long jump (13-6), and Krabill was second in the 1,600 (4:42.02) for the Freddies.

Elsa Hoam was second in the 1,600 (5:33.63), and Sydney Wilson and Emma Fowler finished tied for second in the pole vault (7-6).

Jeremiah McKinley took second in the 200 (24.54).

Bloom-Carroll Invitational

Juliette Laracuente was first in three events and Landyn Albanese took top honors in two others to lead Highland at the Bloom-Carroll Invitational on Saturday, April 24, in Carroll.

Laracuente won the high jump (5-2), the long jump (17-7) and the triple jump (36-4.75); while Albanese took the 100 (11.42) and the long jump (19-5).

The Scots also got first-place finishes from Landon Remmert in the 300-meter hurdles (40.82) and Caden Holtrey in the shot put (48-1).

Utica was led by Chandler Hartman, who won the discus (137-3).
