MOUNT VERNON – The Woodward Opera House in Mount Vernon will present “The Legendary Ladies of Hollywood” on Mother’s Day weekend.
This is the eagerly awaited return performance of Toni Morrell and David Dial in their nostalgic, multimedia show. The Woodward offers two viewing options: a dinner theater show at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8; and a special Mother’s Day matinee performance, including a “high tea” with dessert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 9.
Rated 5 stars by Broadway.com, “The Legendary Ladies of Hollywood” stars British singer-entertainer-comedienne Toni Morrell along with her husband, musical director and multi-keyboard wizard David Dial. This heartwarming celebration of the most iconic women of the Baby Boomer generation salutes the legendary ladies of film, stage, music and television from the 1950s through the 1990s and beyond.
This exceptionally entertaining concert show combines unforgettable musical performances of some of the best-loved songs from the American and Broadway songbooks—along with fun and fascinating “Hollywood Confidential”-type stories and anecdotes, enhanced by captivating onscreen images and superb musical arrangements. Highlights include Marilyn Monroe, Shirley MacLaine, Judy Garland, the Hitchcock Blondes, Debbie Reynolds, Lucille Ball, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler and Cher to name just a few.
In November 2018, husband-wife team Morrell and Dial purchased a home in Knox County after moving from Southern California where, for the past 20 years, they worked together as professional entertainers. Their critically acclaimed show has been presented in various venues and performing arts theaters throughout the Southwest and other regions of America.
Their previous performance at The Woodward marked the first time Dial had performed in his hometown since leaving Mount Vernon at the age of 25 to pursue a career in the music business. As an accomplished multi-keyboardist, arranger-orchestrator and performer, he has worked with such luminaries as Burt Bacharach, Peter Allen, James Darren, Carol Channing and others.
From the United Kingdom, Toni Morrell had won three major national talent competitions by the age of 19 and has been delighting international audiences professionally ever since. Shortly after arriving in America, she performed in the main show room at the Trump Castle, Atlantic City, and later headlined in her own show in Las Vegas. Thereafter moving to Los Angeles, she landed a host of roles in musicals including “La Cage Aux Folles” and “Dressing Room Divas,” where she caught the attention of a major voice-over agency in Hollywood. This led to her being chosen as “The Voice of the Brand” worldwide for Disney’s Tinker Bell/Disney Fairies motion picture franchise. She also co-starred with Broadway legend Carol Channing and appeared on prime-time television in Italy before an audience of millions.
