MOUNT VERNON – Charles Raymond Taylor, 90, of Mount Vernon, passed away on April 17, 2021, at the Knox Community Hospital. He was born on Nov. 23, 1930, in Wurtland, Kentucky, to Clellie Dell and Arlie Bell (Pendleton) Taylor.
Charles was born into a loving family, one of seven siblings. His childhood was filled with much mischief and joy. His father was a pastor, and he had many stories to tell of their adventures in ministry.
After high school, Charles felt the call to ministry and attended Eastern Nazarene College, where he met his bride of 66 years, Phyllis Arlene Taylor. In the journey of their lives together, they pastored many churches and touched many lives for the Lord. They also raised five children and have been so privileged to see their families grow as well.
Charles loved to read and study his Bible and then share with friends and loved ones. He also loved to collect seashells on the beach and anything John Deere. He loved cheering on his Ohio State Buckeyes. He recently had been living at the Eastern Star home.
Charles will be greatly missed by his loving wife and family.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Arlene (Davis) Taylor, whom he married on June 5, 1954; one daughter, Debbie (David) Flack of Mount Vernon; four sons, Scott (Linley) Taylor of Blufton, South Carolina, Jim Taylor of Maumee, Todd (Gemma) Taylor of Richmond, Virginia, and Jon Taylor of Toledo; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pauline McCaskell and Martha Norris.
