Mike Asuncion scored a pair of second-quarter goals and Joe Boesel added two third-period scores during a 6-1 rally that bridged halftime. The Kenyon men’s lacrosse team took the lead for good and added six unanswered goals in the fourth to run away with a 15-7 win over host Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, April 17.
Boesel finished with four goals and three assists, Declan Curry had three goals, and Weston Powell added two goals and four helpers for the Lords (3-0, 2-0).
Boesel had nine goals and five assists in Kenyon's last two games — both against Wooster. His efforts earned him NCAC Athlete of the Week.
Ben Byers scored twice and Ted Wells had a goal and an assist to lead the Fighting Scots (4-3, 4-2).
BASEBALL
Kyle Dwyer had four hits including a home run to lead Kenyon, but the Lords dropped a pair of nail-biters at Wooster in NCAC play on Sunday, April 18.
Dwyer hit a two-run home run in the seventh to cap a late five-run rally. But the Scots’ seven-run cushion was just too much to overcome in the opener and the Lords fell 7-5.
Will Sturgeon and Brent Henderson each had RBI singles in the second and third innings to stake the Lords to a 2-0 lead. The Scots (13-5, 8-2) came roaring back with a three-run fifth inning and won, 3-2, in Game 2.
Dwyer had four hits and two runs over both games to lead the Lords (3-3, 3-3).
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Host Wooster scored the first three goals and never trailed in an 18-12 victory over Kenyon in NCAC play on Saturday, April 17.
Alexa Mellis and Katie Harvey scored four goals apiece for the Scots (5-1, 4-0).
Alex Tiatia led the Ladies (0-2, 0-2) with three goals.
MEN’S GOLF
Lawrence Courtney shot a 1-over-par 72 and Nick Lust was close behind with a 73 to lead Kenyon to a 300-307 win over Wooster on Saturday, April 17, at Denison Golf Club in Granville.
The duo came back to lead the Lords to a 310-335 win over the Scots on Sunday, April 18, at Wooster Country Club.
Courtney shot an even-par 72 and Lust shot a 4-over 76 to lead the Lords.
MEN’S TENNIS
Luis Andres Platas and Thomas Kallarakal went undefeated over two days as Kenyon split with Wooster.
Platas defeated Joaquin Abos Amos 6-1, 6-1 and Kallarakal bested Austin Hanna 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) in singles play after teaming up to beat Abos Amos and Shivam Dewan 8-0 in doubles, leading host Kenyon (1-2, 1-2) to a 7-2 victory in NCAC action on Sunday, April 18, at VandenBerg Courts.
The duo also accounted for three Kenyon wins on Saturday, April 17, but the Lords were edged by the host Scots 5-4.
Platas notched a 6-3, 6-4 win over Abos Amo and Kallarakal defeated Alex Drewes 6-3, 6-4 in singles play after teaming with each other to defeat Abos Amo and Dewan 8-0 in doubles play in the Saturday opener.
Wooster’s (3-6, 3-3) win over Kenyon was its first since 1999.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Eleni Dakos didn’t lose a single point over two matches, leading Kenyon to a 9-0 sweep at Wooster on Sunday, April 18.
Dakos teamed with Erika Pontillo to beat the Scots’ (0-8, 0-6) Abby Aitken and Emma Saxton 8-0 in doubles play. Then she knocked off Kendra Devereaux 6-0, 6-0 in singles play for the Ladies (4-0, 4-0).
Erika Oku went a perfect 4-for-4 in Kenyon's last two matches — both against the Scots — and earned NCAC Athlete of the Week.
SOFTBALL
An offensive explosion led host Wooster to a doubleheader sweep over Kenyon in NCAC play on Sunday, April 18.
A pair of 12-run innings powered the Scots to a 29-1 win over the Ladies in the opener. Wooster then jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and cruised to a 7-2 win to complete the sweep.
Emily Prater accounted for three hits and two RBIs over both games to lead the Ladies.
Katie Agatucci went 6-for-7 with four runs, four RBIs and two stolen bases over two games to lead the Scots (14-6, 9-3).
Solid pitching was behind Wooster’s doubleheader sweep at Kenyon on Saturday, April 17, in Gambier.
Olivia Johnson struck out eight batters in a two-hit shutout to lead the Scots to a 7-0 win over Kenyon in the opening game. Bella Allbrecht had both hits for the Ladies (0-10, 0-8).
Marissa Norgrove allowed one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts in an 11-1 five-inning win for the Scots in the second game.
Allbrecht drove in Kenyon’s only run, and Madde Hyland had a pair of hits.
