MOUNT VERNON – Utility work will require water shutoffs for some Mount Vernon customers on Sunday and Monday as crews replace a fire hydrant and a valve.

The City’s Utility Department will turn the water off from the Chestnut and Main intersection up to Gay Street on Sunday.

“It’s not a lot of affected houses, but we are going to have to turn it off because they have to move a fire hydrant,” Rick Dzik, the City’s Safety-Service director, told the Mount Vernon News.

Dzik said there is a chance for a boil advisory on Monday.

He also said that on Monday the department will be working to replace a valve on Vernonview Drive near the Developmental Center. It will require that crews turn off water for some customers near the Developmental Center for a short time. The shutoffs might run up to Avalon Road.
