MOUNT VERNON – 

George A. Sabanos Sr., 85, of Mount Vernon passed away on Sunday morning, April 11, 2021, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.  He was born on June 2, 1935, in Belle Valley, Ohio to the late John and Susan (Honecy) Sabanos

George honorably served his country in the Air Force during the Cold War.  He was an Operations Manager for over 38 years for United Airlines. After retirement, George enjoyed being an Electrician. He was a faithful member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 888.  In his spare time, George liked to go fishing and attend Columbus Clippers games.

George is survived by his children, George (Anne) Sabanos Jr. of Charles Town, West Virginia and Debra (Richard) DiMeo of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren, Hillary Youngman of Ontario, California, Thomas (Jenessa) Sabanos of Lynchburg, Virginia and Michael (Jackie) Sabanos of Bealeton, Virginia; great grandson, Jaxon Sabanos;  sister, Mary Augustine of Strongsville, Ohio; brother, Stephen (Mary) Sabanos of Brunswick Hills, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and his Goddaughter, Marcy Smithhisler of Mount Vernon;

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Coralie A. (Musser) Sabanos on April 19, 2014; brother, John Sabanos; and sister and brother-in-law, Ann (Charlie) Parker.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. A vigil service will follow the visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 19, at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant. George will be laid to rest beside his wife, Coralie in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Mount Vernon with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed at the church.
