MOUNT VERNON – The Main Street Mount Vernon Events Committee has released its 2021 schedule of events.
With a mix of Main Street originals and several new events popping up, 2021 should prove to be an exciting year for the Central Business District.
The 2020 Annual Awards Ceremony will be continuing with the virtual format as members of the committee look to conduct surprise award presentations. The presentations will take place in May, so look for more information to come on how to nominate your favorite downtown business for the awards.
Following the Annual Awards Ceremony, Main Street shifts its focus to summer as we bring back First Fridays to downtown Mount Vernon. June, July, August and September are the months set to host this event that has become synonymous with Main Street. Themes for each First Friday are being discussed, and Pam Palm of Knox Public Health has joined the committee to ensure the events are conducted in the safest way possible.
After First Fridays, the Events Committee will bring the first-ever Johnny Appleseed Apple Fest to downtown Mount Vernon. Taking place on Saturday, Oct. 9, Main Street invites the community to enjoy treats from local apple-themed vendors; a production of Johnny Appleseed; and other hands-on, turn-of-the-century practices on display at this all-day event.
To round out 2021, Main Street Mount Vernon is introducing the first-ever Gingerbread Forest to Mount Vernon. Kicking off with Santa’s Parade and the Annual Square Lighting Ceremony on Shop Small Saturday (Nov. 27), the Gingerbread Forest will incorporate sponsored life-sized gingerbread people throughout downtown, with several larger displays popping up on the Square. Following Shop Small weekend, Main Street will bring three additional weekends of winter-related events. More information on the full slate of winter activities will come as we prepare for the biggest winter celebration Mount Vernon has ever seen.
