MOUNT VERNON – As the calendar has just officially turned to spring, so comes another annual ritual: spring-cleaning.
This April, the Knox County Spring Clean-up event will encourage all youth and adult groups to help keep the community in top shape by doing their part to keep county roadways litter-free.
According to a press release from Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention, the event was canceled last year due to COVID-19. However, the Knox County Health Department has approved the community-wide event in 2021 as long as participants don masks.
If your group participates, you can choose what part of town to clean. After participants have filled their trash bags, they should be collected at Knox County Fairgrounds on May 1 for disposal.
There are stipends available: $3 per bag for 1-24 bags, $3.50 per bag for 25-67 bags, and $4 per bag for 68-100 bags.
To pick up your supplies, visit the Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention office at 117 E. High St., second floor in Suite 257.
Please contact Program Manager Matt Baugher at 740-393-6704 or email him at matthewbaugher@co.knox.oh.us for more information. He can let you know how to involve your youth group or nonprofit group in the event.
Sponsors supporting this effort include Keep America Beautiful; the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency; and the Delaware, Knox, Marion, Morrow Solid Waste District.
