MOUNT VERNON – Marvin Phil Heaton, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on Aug. 14, 1932, in Geneva to the late Marvin A. and Evelyn G. (Bogan) Heaton.
Marvin retired from Continental Can, and after retirement he worked for the Ohio Eastern Star Home and the Knox County Learning Center. When his children were going through 4-H, he enjoyed helping with their horse projects. Marvin honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He always enjoyed putting a smile on your face, but most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 64 years, Jeanne Ann (Nagel) Heaton; children, June (Ken) Suain, Debbie (Mike) White, Beverly (Steve) Dexter and Brian Heaton; grandchildren, Mabel, Kevin, Ann, Steph, Allyson, Jacklyn and Jake; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Gildersleeve and Donna Isenberg; brother, Larry Heaton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Sue; a grandson, Devin Lee Keegan; sisters, Pauline Phillips and Patty Laymon; brothers-in-law, Dick Phillips, Wendell Laymon and Ron Isenberg; and a sister-in-law, Kay Heaton.
The family will receive friends from noon until the time of a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road in Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Face masks will be required, and social distancing will be observed.
