MOUNT VERNON – On Monday, Amber Keener announced her run for Mount Vernon City Council.
Seeing an opportunity to work with community leaders and partners, Keener has decided to seek a seat on the City Council as an at-large member.
“I love this city, I love our history and I love the people that live here,” Keener said. “I believe that my life experiences, my abilities, skills, connections to the people and businesses of Mount Vernon, and understanding of the issues facing our city qualify me to be an authentic representative of the city my family and I call home.
“Raising my children here, I have seen the positives and negatives of what this city has to offer. I want to work with the people who create all that is good in our community to help make Mount Vernon an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
Keener has been involved in the community in numerous ways — from her work on The Healing Field to her involvement with the arts — and her passion is found in helping the community through preserving tradition while keeping an eye to the future.
“In today’s hyper-partisan world, we must find ways to come together and serve our community with a unified voice,” Keener said. “I hope to provide that voice, so that we may realize there is common ground when we seek to love our neighbors. Whether we work to fix a street or we create new paths to prosperity for our citizens, Mount Vernon is capable of great things through partnerships. My promise to my neighbors — to everyone who calls this home — is that I am for all things Mount Vernon.”
Keener is excited to share her vision for a stronger Mount Vernon.
Amber Keener and her husband, Steve Fleckenstein, have been married fifteen years and reside on the east side of town, where they raise their five children, ages seven through 14.
