To the Editor:
In response to the letters, Jan. 16, Saturday:
MOUNT VERNON – The three letters were dumping on President Trump and Republican Rep. Bob Gibbs. Easy to understand and both of these people are hated by some Democrats, Republicans and Independents. In the United States of America, we still have rights. We have the Constitution. We have the Bill of RIghts. When any issue is in question, it must be settled in a civil manner. We as a nation will not get a good answer doing stupid, violent actions in the streets or destroying property in Washington, D.C.; or any city, large or small. On the Right or on the Left, extreme and radical street-rioting protesters surely are not the answer. The lawbreakers must be punished for whatever laws or violence they committed. We need to debate serious problems in the arena of ideas, not extreme pushy actions. How about earlier in the year with extreme destruction of various cities like Seattle, Portland and Minneapolis was wrong?
United America needed:
Some extreme people want to defund the police. We as a country sure needed more protection on Jan. 6. The House and the Senate knew the vote for president was done and decided in December 2020. Jan. 6 should have been just a formality. Why wasn't this stressed?
75 million Trump voters are not the enemy! The nation is split, and we as a nation must heal. We need our moral compass checked. The mending of our country will happen when the House of Representatives and the Senate do their job. Stop being the Washington Elite that become multi-millionaires using tax dollars taken from hardworking Americans. We must be careful who we hitch our wagons to. Sedition is very serious. The rioting and damage and death that happened was planned chaos, with weeks in planning by the Washington Elite. Where was the going-and-coming coordination of extreme violent rioting of Left and Right? Who funded this? Why were so many afraid to truly verify the election? If it was correct, then where is the sedition?
