MOUNT VERNON – Howard B. Purdy II, 60, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday morning, Feb. 11, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Howard was born on July 10, 1960, in Mount Vernon to Howard B. Purdy and the late Kathleen (Goodman) Thomas
Howard was an avid gardener and reader, Mr. Fix It, and a great pool player. He enjoyed farming with his father, and being in the great outdoors, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Howard served his country in the Navy. He had worked at Kenyon College and for the last 12 years, he was the Superintendent of Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Howard is survived by his daughter, Brandy (Htut) Zar of Mount Vernon; son, Stephen Purdy of Florence, AL; his father and stepmother, Howard and Debbie; grandchildren Ezra Zar, Alice Purdy and Isabelle Purdy; his sister, Leeann Reyes of Savanna, GA; and many friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Thomas.
