InTown Restaurant in Centerburg is the kind of local diner where customers can expect good food, relaxed conversation and a familiar crowd of regulars mingling and sharing the news of the day.

After closing for a time following taking over the establishment from the previous owner, current owner Jimmy Snyder told the Mount Vernon News that he had originally intended to reopen InTown Restaurant in March of last year, but the pandemic delayed them for several months.

Yet, aside from customers wearing masks when they enter the restaurant, the pandemic hasn’t changed much about the feel of InTown Restaurant, he said. The size of their space has helped InTown Restaurant to keep serving customers indoors without much change, even under pandemic restrictions.

“We’ve got a pretty big dining room; we have 69 seats,” Snyder said.

Though InTown Restaurant hasn’t been reopened for long, Snyder — whose family has owned Antolino’s Pizza in Columbus for over 40 years — is no novice to the restaurant business. And while he describes the food as regular American fare, he noted that his experience of cooking Italian food for approximately three decades also shows up in the menu selections.

Preparing quality food for their customers is a priority for Snyder.

“We try to do everything from scratch, including making our own biscuits and gravy,” he said. “Now that I’ve got my baker’s ovens, we’re actually planning on doing our own bread too.”

Snyder said that the restaurant is still a work in progress, but they are also trying to locally source as much of the food they serve as possible.

The InTown Restaurant menu is available at Facebook.com/InTownCenterburg/menu as well as at InTownCenterburg.com, and everything on the menu is also available for takeout, Snyder said. They also regularly post specials on their Facebook page.

Chicken alfredo is one of the most popular takeout orders in the evenings, he said. But their “InTown on Top” is the go-to breakfast dish.

“That’s biscuits, potatoes, eggs, all covered in gravy,” Snyder said. “It’s our biggest seller by far.”

The restaurant is currently open every day except Monday. They begin serving customers at 6:30 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday; but stay open until 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

InTown Restaurant is located at 12 E. Main St. in Centerburg.
