MOUNT VERNON – Susan Therese Thielen Krick was born to Marilyn and George Thielen in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on April 17, 1953. Susan lost her father in October of 1953. She and her brother were adopted by Robert Krick of Pipestone, Minnesota, when he married her mother in July of 1958. The family lived in Pipestone where Susan attended school and graduated from high school  in 1971. She then attended vocational school in Hutchinson, Minnesota, studying to be a teacher’s aide.

Susan was known for her certain style of humor. She would catch us all off guard with her clever jokes. Susan loved reminiscing about family life and events. She enjoyed doing cross-stitch and embroidery. Each of her nieces and nephews received a pillowcase and blanket from their Aunt Sue when they were born. She never missed a timely birthday card. All of her nieces and nephews remember Aunt Sue’s birthday cards were the first to arrive.

Susan worked as a nurse’s aide and was a loving caregiver to many residents at Desert Cove in Chandler. Her friend Jan Strauss moved with her from Arizona to Mount Vernon, where they continued working together as nurse’s aides. Susan retired after many years in that profession at Country Court in Mount Vernon.

Many of Jan’s family members ‘became’ Ohio family to Susan. They offered her care and support and kept contact with Susan’s mother and siblings in Arizona.

Susan was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. She valued and enjoyed her church friends and acquaintances and actively lived her faith.

Susan developed Parkinson’s disease and eventually needed daily care. Family members helped move her and her belongings back to Arizona. Susan was admitted to Mesa Christian Care Center, where she was able to enjoy lunches out with family members and meals and visits on the sunny patio.

She is survived by her mother, Marilyn, of Chandler, Arizona; her siblings, John (Annette), Jim (Sylvia), Kay (John) and Carol of Arizona, and sister Janet (Ron) of Washington; her nieces, Claire, Kelsey (Will), Heidi and Kendall; nephews, Patrick, Kaleb, Owen (Audrey) and Paul; two great-nephews, Everett and Brenton; and two new great-nieces or -nephews due in September.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St. in Mount Vernon. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. following the visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant. Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
