COLUMBUS – Ohio Humanities has joined forces with the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) as part of the Ohio Distance Learning Initiative to help make history, culture, science, technology, engineering, arts and math distance learning opportunities more accessible to Ohio communities.
As part of this program, COSI will lead the delivery of free learning kits — called Learning Lunchboxes — to schools, families and underserved youth across Ohio’s 88 counties.
The Learning Lunchboxes are filled with five days of engaging activities targeted for grades K-8. They showcase different themes like water, nature, space and more. All materials needed to complete the activities are included, and the interactive content is tied to Ohio and national learning standards. In 2021, COSI will distribute 50,000 of these kits across Ohio alongside schools, meal providers and other cultural institutions in a socially distant manner (i.e., car drive-thru method) at no cost to participating families.
Together, we will feed hungry lives and feed hungry minds.
We will be coming to your community and want to highlight your organization.
We invite you to collaborate with us on this exciting Ohio Distance Learning Initiative as a key community partner. There are many ways to become a partner on the project and serve Ohio families, including but not limited to:
- Providing information that you would like to highlight about your organization, which will be highlighted with the Learning Lunchbox at no cost to you;
- Providing materials highlighting your local organization that can be distributed alongside the Learning Lunchboxes; and
- Joining us as volunteers as we distribute boxes alongside local elected officials, such as your mayor, county commissioner or member of the General Assembly during monthly distribution locations across the state.
