DANVILLE – Danville High School recently inducted 10 students into its chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS); Miranda Miller, the school's NHS advisor, said in a press release.

In the Jan. 14 ceremony, Camie Newbold, Brooklyn Hess, Andrew Workman, Darren Mickley, Leahandria Hood, Sierra Arnal, Keaura Shilling, Kaitlynn Banbury, Alenah Boeshart and Bailey Moreland became NHS members.

To be eligible, students must have a 3.25 GPA at the conclusion of their freshman and sophomore years, and must then demonstrate the qualities of character, leadership and service. Once the candidates submit their applications — including input from teachers as well as the candidate — a five-member faculty panel then reviews the information. If a majority of the panel votes yes, then the student is accepted.

Due to COVID-19, Danville High School's NHS chapter has been unable to do everything they typically participate in, but "we are hoping to start soon," Miller stated in the release.

The money that NHS raises supports various community endeavors and scholarships: the Josie Lynne Kaylor General Scholarship; Relay for Life, in memory of Ally Grubaugh; the Central Ohio Technical College Officer Cottrell Scholarship; Danville Police Department, in memory of Officer Thomas Cottrell; and Lifeline of Ohio, in memory of Josie Lynne Kaylor and Haley Bunting.
