MOUNT VERNON – Thanks to CARES Act funds, visitors to downtown Mount Vernon's Public Square and other locations can now enjoy free Wi-Fi.
The use of federal funds to install the technology "did not deplete the city's reserves," a Facebook post from the Knox County Chamber of Commerce said.
A virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Jan. 20 to usher in the new service. In attendance were Mount Vernon Mayor Starr, Trina Trainor of the Mount Vernon Music & Arts Festival, Carol Grubaugh of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce and Councilman Tanner Salyers. Main Street Mount Vernon and the Knox County Convention & Visitors Bureau also joined the ceremony.
The wifi network is DowntownMV and anyone can log in to use the network with the password mtv43050. Entering in the password will bring up a splash page with Mount Vernon's city logo where guests are required to agree to the terms of use before connecting.
