MOUNT VERNON – Leslie E. Brown, 98, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. He was born on Oct. 22, 1922, in Centerburg to the late Edgar and Estella (Hunter) Brown. 

Leslie was employed as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and retired after 30 years of service. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Army during WWII, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Bill) Van Dyke; his son, Bob (Becky) Brown; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Ronnie) Frazee, Steve Van Dyke, Adam (Alexis) Brown and Tyler (Lauren) Brown; and six great-grandchildren, Krystal Smith, Makenzie Van Dyke, Makayla Van Dyke, Landon Zouvalekov, Alex Brown and Delores Brown.

In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jean (Hamilton) Brown; his sister, Barbara Shilling; and his brother, Richard Brown.

In keeping with Leslie’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will observe a private graveside service at a later date.
