MOUNT VERNON – Knox County Career Center will join more than 700 school districts throughout Ohio to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month, Superintendent Kathy Greenich announced recently.
“The Knox County Career Center Schools District is very fortunate to have longevity in our school board members’ service and experience,” Greenich said.
Serving as a link between the community and classroom, school board members are elected to establish policies that provide the framework for public schools. The KCCC school board is responsible for approximately 600 high school students, approximately 50 preschoolers and many adult students — along with over 100 full-time and many part-time employees.
A major achievement that the board helped with this year was a multimillion-dollar roof renovation to the majority of the main building at 306 Martinsburg Road.
The KCCC school board members are Mr. Rogers, Mr. McLarnan, Mrs. Theaker, Mrs. Miller, Dr. Bennett, Mr. Thompson, Mrs. Goetzman and Mrs. Bechtel. Mrs. Miller retired in December after 35 years of serving as a board member.
“It’s more important than ever that communities support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow, and our school board members represent the county’s communities very well in their decision-making,” Greenich said. “I encourage community members to take a moment and tell school board members, ‘Thanks for caring about our children and giving so much to our community.’ Let them know you support them, and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated.”
