MOUNT VERNON – Excavation began on Jan. 11 for Mount Vernon’s North Sandusky Street water line project.

A section of an eight-inch water line will run from Franklin Street north past Northview Drive.

“On Monday, they’re going to need to shut down the water line at North Sandusky Street for a few hours between Belmont Avenue and Pleasant Street to connect the new water line,” Mayor Matt Starr said.

Customers in that area will be under a boil water advisory.

During construction, the southbound lane on North Sandusky Street will be closed. Through-traffic will be maintained through the use of portable traffic lights directing traffic to the single-lane construction zone.

Starr said there will be delays. The southbound lane will reopen at the end of the day when crews are finished working.

“As of now, the construction project is expected to last approximately 40 days,” Starr said, though that is dependent upon the weather.

Repairs were made to the South Main Street viaduct. A temporary patch was made in the northbound lane until the Ohio Utilities Protection Services came out to show where utilities were located.

“And then we were able to take care of all the deterioration with concrete,” Starr said.

The concrete was expected to cure by Monday.

“So that particular lane is going to remain closed through the weekend just because the concrete has to cure,” Starr said. “We do not have hot mix asphalt right now.”
