MOUNT VERNON – James Joseph McKay, 79, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. He was born on Sept. 18, 1941, in Mount Vernon, to the late Richard and Florence (Swingle) McKay.
James was employed for over 20 years at Anheuser-Busch, where he was a safety director and teacher. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Air Force from 1961-64. James was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as chairman of the board and also served in many other capacities. James was an avid golfer and was a member for many years at Wyandot Golf Club. He enjoyed horses and even owned racehorses. He also enjoyed gardening and being outside. James was a good man with a great personality, and he loved the time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene (McLarnan) McKay; his daughter, Michelle (Larry) Oyer; his son, Scott McKay; his grandson, Michael Oyer; his brother, Bill (Charlene) McKay; his sister, Judy Lang; and his uncle, David (Cheryl) McKay.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 4-6 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow, beginning at 6 p.m., with Pastor Bradley Hamm officiating.
