MOUNT VERNON – Charles Edward (Buster) Payne, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on March 29, 1932, in Bloomfield, to the late Harry and Lucy (Morris) Payne. 

Buster worked for over 40 years at American National Can and retired from there at the age of 59. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Colonial City Moose Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fraternal Order of Elks and Amvets. Buster enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially his trips to Canada and Michigan. Most of all, he loved being around his loving family. 

He is survived by his children, Debbie (Michael Sr.) Deem, Gary Payne, Roxanne Dean, Wanda (John Anderson) Murphy and Lisa (Glen) Goodwin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Payne; and several nieces and nephews. 

Along with his parents, Buster was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Mosby; sisters, Mary Lou Ratliff, Norma Fawcett, Edna Butt and Martha Payne; feline friends, Missy and Gigi; and canine companions, Bogie and Oakland.    

Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
