MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon Lions Club has been busy serving their community and other projects in spite of the COVID virus.

For Lions Club International Week of Service, the local Club members collected food and money and took them to The Salvation Army.

The members donated items for Operation Christmas Child, and Lion Betty Joe Morrison-Mizer packed the boxes and delivered them to where they were to go. The Mount Vernon Lions Club donated to Food For The Hungry and also to Main Street Mount Vernon for their lighting project.

The Club Members are saving plastic bags and will be giving them to the District to help make benches to be used throughout the Zone 1 District.

The Mount Vernon Lions Club members are having a Poinsettia Sale to help them to buy eyeglasses and exams. They have purchased more pairs than usual because the demand is up due to people in need. They still are collecting used eyeglasses and have put a new collection box at the Post Office.

The members of the Mount Vernon Lions Club welcome new member Marylin Amstutz. Second Vice Governor Mary Bumpus installed Marylin Amstutz on her official visit to the Club. Lion Judy Hagner received a 20-year membership pin and Lion Joe Gutridge received a 50-year pin. Lion Mary Spence received a three-year pin, Lori Wilkes received a three-year pin, Dave Wilkes received a two-year pin and Tom Morrow received an 18-year pin.

The Mount Vernon chapter will welcome new members who want to help improve the quality of life for those who are visually impaired, hungry and suffer from childhood cancer. These are just a few of the things that the Lions International do. Anyone who is interested in joining or wants more information, call Tom Cropp at 740-504-6372 or Joe Gutridge at 740-397-5919.
