MOUNT VERNON – Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) has announced the launch of a new Emergency Management & Homeland Security major to help students prepare for careers in 21st-century emergency management and homeland security.
Beginning in 2021, the new degree program will provide students an overview of theoretical and practical concepts in crime mitigation, human behavior, infrastructure and disaster planning. Students will have the opportunity to earn a degree, industry certifications and experience — all through a Christian perspective. The program is designed for students new to the field as well as public safety professionals looking to upgrade their skills.
“To have a trained individual who’s approaching these emergencies and crises, especially with a Christian worldview,” Thad Hicks, Ph.D., one of the developers of the new degree program, said in a release on the university's website. “I think it makes us better and more equipped to respond to whatever we encounter, whether it be man-made or naturally occurring. The student coming out of MVNU is going to have been presented with the skill set to be successful.”
Relevant careers are available in government, the private sector and even nonprofits.
Courses for the Bachelor of Arts in Emergency Management & Homeland Security program will be offered as traditional in-person courses beginning in Fall 2021 and online courses beginning in March 2021.
