Food For The Hungry's Fire and Ice program is changing venues this year due to the pandemic. The drive-through event will accept nonperishable food items and monetary donations.

WHERE: Wolf Run Regional Park, 17621 Yauger Road, Mount Vernon; and Millwood Church of Christ, 10900 Millersburg Road, Howard

WHEN: 5-8 p.m.

Grab some hot cocoa, pack your family in your car, turn up the Christmas music and take a drive around town to admire the entries in Mount Vernon's 2020 Festival of Lights. Maps will be available at the following link beginning Dec. 10: https://fb.me/e/ZvTRYE7x. After you view the displays, visit facebook.com/mainstreetmountvernon to vote for your favorite light displays in each category by 'liking' the pictures.

Knox Foodies is taking donations for "Foodies Feeding Families" to support Interchurch Social Services of Knox County. You can donate canned vegetables, canned fruits, boxed stuffing, instant potatoes and gravy! Drop them off at one of the donation boxes.

The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County is having a holiday book giveaway! Just drop by the circulation desk at the main library and ask for a giveaway bag. Available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Friday, Jan. 1

This year's First Day Hike will be a self-guided walk due to the pandemic. A map will be handed out with a specific route. Different stations throughout the park will be featured wherein volunteers will provide historical, natural and interesting stories about an area. This event is free; but no lunch will be provided this year, only bottled water. There will also be a bonfire where walkers can warm up before and after their walk.
