Northmor’s Graesin Cass buried a pair of free throws with 27.8 seconds left to break a 43-43 tie. The Golden Knights went on to beat Mount Gilead 46-43 in KMAC play in Galion on Tuesday, Dec. 8 to give new coach Blade Tackett his first win.
Cass scored a game-high 18 points and Kooper Keen added 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Northmor (1-3, 1-1), which built a 27-14 lead at the break by holding MG to just two points in the second quarter.
Paul Butterman had 14 points and nine rebounds and Elijah Chaffin added 13 points to lead Mount Gilead (1-2, 1-1).
Centerburg 60, Danville 32
Centerburg started fast with a 20-2 first quarter and never looked back in a 60-32 win at Danville in KMAC play on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
Levi Houck and Alex Johnson paced the Trojans (2-0, 2-0) with 11 points each and Mckinnon Mead added 10 points.
Cam Miller and Wyatt Weckesser had seven points apiece to lead the Blue Devils (0-3, 0-2).
Cardington 71, Highland 36
Trey Brininger and Avery Harper combined for 44 points to lead host Cardington to a lopsided 71-36 win over Highland in KMAC play on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
Brininger scored a game-high 23 points and Harper added 21 to lead the Pirates (2-1, 1-1), who built a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Zach Lester scored 12 points and Nate Hickman had 10 points for Cardington.
Jordan Bellamy had 10 points to lead the Scots (0-2, 0-1), Rider Minnick added nine points and Garrett Fitzpatrick chipped in eight points.
Girls basketball
East Knox took control in the first half, but blew it open with an 18-1 fourth quarter en route to a 53-27 victory at Centerburg in KMAC play on Wednesday, Dec. 9
Laura Keith knocked down four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0). Alexandria Magers added 17 points and Shanda Melick added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Chloe Goulter had eight points to lead the Trojans (2-2, 1-2).
Mount Gilead 45, Highland 32
Holly Gompf caught fire with three 3-pointers in the second quarter to help Mount Gilead open up a 27-10 lead at the break, and they cruised to a 45-32 win at Highland in KMAC play on Wednesday, Dec. 9 in Sparta.
Gompf finished with 18 points, and Candace Millisor and Madilyn Elson added 10 points apiece to lead MG (6-1, 3-1).
Emma West had 10 points and Guinevere Jackson added nine points to lead the Scots (2-2, 1-2).
Cardington-Lincoln 65, Northmor 20
The Pirates opened the game on a 14-4 run and never looked back in a 65-20 win at Northmor in KMAC play on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
Karsyn Edwards buried five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 17 points, Kambry Edwards had 15 points, Beth Hardwick added 11 points and Mikayla Linkous chipped in 10 points to lead the Pirates (3-0, 3-0), who blew the game open with a 26-1 third quarter.
Lexi Wenger led the Golden Knights (1-5, 0-4) with eight points.
