Holly Gompf knocked down three 3-pointers and scored all 11 points as the Mount Gilead girls basketball team jumped out to an 11-0 lead. Host Utica never recovered and fell 59-31 in a non-league contest on Monday, Nov. 30.
Gompf scored 19 of her game-high 23 points in the first half, leading MG to a 38-10 advantage at the break. Gompf finished with three steals and two assists.
Isabela Schroeter added 11 points and nine rebounds; and Candace Millisor had nine points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals for MG (2-1).
Shawna Blake knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and three rebounds; and Delaney Kerstetter added nine points, three rebounds and a pair of blocks to lead Utica (0-2).
Danville 76, Delaware Christian 25
Brooklyn Hess scored 15 of her 18 points in the first half to lead Danville to a 76-25 non-league win at Delaware Christian on Saturday, Nov. 29.
Hess scored nine points in the first quarter as the Blue Devils (3-0) built a 15-7 lead.
Ella Proper scored 16 points and Jaylyn Smith added 12 points for Danville, which built a 34-11 lead at the break and led 59-19 through three.
Katie Neuhart scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Eagles (0-2) in a rematch of last year’s Division IV district semifinal game at New Albany, which the Devils won 50-45.
Boys basketball
Cardington-Lincoln rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half to beat host Pleasant 67-66 in non-league play on Friday, Nov. 27.
Trey Brininger and Avery Harper scored eight points apiece in the final period to help the Pirates overcome an 11-point deficit at the end of three quarters.
Brininger scored a game-high 22 points, Harper and Nate Hickman added 14 points apiece and Mason White chipped in nine points for Cardington.
Jake Williams led the Spartans with 17 points, including 15 in the second half. Peydon Gosnell scored 15 points and Trey Booker had 14 points for Pleasant.
Pleasant 61, Northmor 44
Kooper Keen scored a game-high 16 points, but visiting Northmor fell at Pleasant in a non-league contest on Saturday, Nov. 28.
Keen added eight rebounds, five blocks and four assists to his ledger; and Logan Mariotti connected on four 3-pointers, scoring 12 points for the Golden Knights (0-1).
Paydon Gosnell had 15 points, Trey Booker added 14 points and Austin Shaffer chipped in 10 points to lead the Spartans (1-1), who led 24-20 at the break and pushed the lead to eight through three quarters before blowing it open in the fourth.
