MOUNT VERNON – Mount Vernon’s Downtown Rock Around event is still scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28, although it will be a lot different because of COVID-19, Main Street Mount Vernon said in a news release.

The organization reported that Santa and Mrs. Claus will not be making an appearance, and there will not be a parade.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., participating downtown merchants will have "child-friendly, holiday-themed ideas to complete in store or to take and complete at home,” the release said.

“After completing your downtown holiday shopping, head to the square at 5:30 p.m. for a special lighting ceremony sponsored by Park National Bank, followed by a holiday set from a local musician,” the news release said.

The group asks that participants maintain social distancing and wear masks.

“Masks will be available for the square lighting ceremony, and in an effort to limit excessive contact, customers are encouraged to minimize handling merchandise unless they plan to make a purchase,” the release said.
