A weekly giveaway will be hosted by the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Giveaways will contain cookbooks, music CDs and other items. Sign up at the circulation desk of the main library to enter. A new basket will be up for grabs every Monday. The first drawing will be held on Nov. 30.

Thursday, Nov. 26

A virtual Youth Storytime will be hosted by the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County every Tuesday and Thursday.

WeRunMV will be hosting its 10th annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk. Each of the three races will require entrants to gather five minutes prior to the start. Participants are requested to wear masks and social distance before and after the race. The registration will be contactless and the event is free; cash and food donations will be collected for the local Food For The Hungry drive and donated to the Salvation Army and Interchurch Social Services.

Friday, Nov. 27

The Central Ohio Youth Ballet performance of the “The Nutcracker," originally scheduled for this date, has been delayed to Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. Call 740-263-6737 or visit thewoodward.org for ticket purchases.

Saturday, Nov. 28

Santa and Mrs. Claus will not be able to attend the Downtown Rock Around this year due to the pandemic. However, kids can drop off their letters for them at Almost Famous Sweets and Sodas or PakMail. You can also send letters to PakMail but it has to be addressed to Santa Claus and include your name and address.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., participating downtown merchants at the Downtown Rock Around will have child-friendly, holiday-themed ideas in store or to take and complete at home. A special lighting ceremony sponsored by the Park National Bank, followed by a holiday set from a local musician, can be enjoyed after shopping. Attendees are encouraged to practice social distancing.

A snowman-decorating contest will be hosted by the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Call 740-392-2665, Ext. 248, to join.

To help the community keep the Christmas season's traditional start, MVNU is making their 2019 performance of Handel’s "Messiah" available on demand for the whole month of December, with a special message from Choral Union Director Dr. Robert Tocheff and Vice President for University Relations the Rev. James Smith. The 2020 production has been postponed due to COVID-19 regulations.

Join the Art Therapy Zoom Group hosted by the New Directions Domestic Abuse Shelter and Rape Crisis Center. Breathing exercises and art directives will be used to cope with stress, bring attention to the present moment and express emotions. No need to be an artist! Supplies will be provided to participants. The group will be open to a maximum of 10 adult survivors and will meet six times during Tuesdays.

Experience the beauty of the season with a stroll through more than 600 luminaries and listen to or sing along with small caroling groups during Candles & Carols. Social distancing measures will be in place. Masks are required when you cannot maintain a distance of six feet or greater. This event is in memory of Dick Murray and is sponsored by Murray, Rauzi, Kidwell and Cunningham.

Monroe Township Fire Association's second annual Toy Drive will be a drive-through service. Bring a new unopened toy, drive up and one of the members will take the toy and put it in the box. All the toys will benefit the local Salvation Army and will stay here in Knox County.
