MOUNT VERNON – Stephen (Stevie) J. Nicholls, 59, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, at Whispering Hills Care Center. He was born on July 9, 1961, in Mount Vernon, to the late Otis and Janet (Baker) Nicholls.
Stephen was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He had worked for New Hope Industries as an assembler. He volunteered for the Interchurch Food Bank on West Gambier Street in Mount Vernon.
Stevie loved life. He loved spending time with his girlfriend, Heather Frary; special lifetime friends, Brent Fletcher and Sarah Craft; and his cousins, especially his (big brother) Larry Layman. He enjoyed riding his bike, playing corn hole, country- and gospel music, attending the Knox County Fair, mowing lawns, splitting wood, Christmas, watching The Dukes of Hazard and the OSU Buckeyes, and spending time with family. He loved living independently, caring for his kitty, and feeding his birds.
He is survived by his Aunt Donna (Baker) Nicholls of Mount Vernon, his Uncle Paul (Debbie) Baker of Mount Vernon and his Aunt Betty Baker of Mount Vernon; along with many cousins.
Besides his parents, Stevie was preceded in death by his aunts and uncles: Harold and Opal (Baker) Carter, Lawrence and Kathleen (Baker) Layman, Raymond Dean Nicholls, Gene Baker, Clarence Baker Jr., Donald and Marilyn Baker, Alonzo and Pat Nicholls, and Charles and Irene Totman; and several cousins.
The family would like to thank the Ohio Department of Disabilities for all their help with Stevie; especially Rob Ferguson, Chris Ross and Rachel Yoder. They also want to thank the staff of Whispering Hills Care Center and Kindred Hospice for caring for and loving Stevie.
The family will hold a private burial in Ebenezer Cemetery on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, with Pastor Susan Stevens officiating. A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Ebenezer Fellowship Hall. Please contact Gayle Ruse for further information.
