MOUNT VERNON – Judith "Judy" Hicks, of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4, 2020, after a long battle with lymphoma cancer, with her children by her side. She was born on Jan. 3, 1943, in Clarksburg, to Orpheus Chaffin Jr. and Martha (Elliott) Chaffin.
Judy had a great sense of humor. She was witty, feisty and strongly devoted to her family and friends. She retired from Kenyon College Food Administration in 2010 after 36 years of service. She enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling the world with her daughters, family and friends.
Left to cherish her memories are her sister, Peggy Elam (Mike Elam); her daughters, Michele Sonnacchio and Kathleen Bennett; grandchildren, Anthony (Jackie) Sonnacchio and Angela Sonnacchio; great-grandchildren, Anthony Sonnacchio Jr., Gianni Tricoche and Liliana Sonnacchio; her nephew, Mike Elam; great-nephew, Clay Elam; and our extended family, Eric and Michell Reich and children.
Judy was preceded in death by her father, Orpheus Chaffin Jr.; and mother, Martha Meadows.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 2-4 p.m. at Ariel-Foundation Park in the Urton Clock House, located at 10 Pittsburgh Ave. next to the Rastin Observation Tower.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family would like to request masks be worn and social distancing be observed.
