Guy Hager, a local resident of Mount Vernon, has decided to take action for his community by organizing a Neighborhood Watch.

Hager's initial efforts include covering the areas of Mount Vernon that are patrolled by the Mount Vernon Police. He hopes to expand to areas around Mount Vernon patrolled by the Sheriff's Office. 

Hager believes the police in Mount Vernon are doing a great job. 

"They deserve our respect and support," Hager told the Mount Vernon News. "But I think that the community has a responsibility to look out for each other and help when we can." 

Hager was involved in a neighborhood watch in his previous community in Pennsylvania and felt it created a great partnership between local law enforcement and the community, which he says is important. With the drug activity, burglary and vandalism happening throughout the community, he feels the Neighborhood Watch would be very beneficial in helping the community to become crime-free.
