MOUNT VERNON – The Salvation Army of Mount Vernon and Knox County will soon begin accepting registrations for those hoping to receive Christmas food and toy baskets, with the first registration window opening on Monday, Sept. 21.
Registrations are being accepted by phone only, a Salvation Army flyer about the Christmas basket program stated.
Interested parties can call in between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 21, through Friday, Sept. 25, the flyer said. There will be a second round of registrations in October, beginning on Monday, Oct. 19 and running through Friday, Oct. 23, with phones being answered once again between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Calls that go to voicemail will be returned, a post on the Salvation Army of Mount Vernon Facebook's page said. The post also indicated that those who signed up for backpacks in August are already signed up for the Christmas program.
Those interested in receiving a basket should be ready with information about the household when calling, the flyer said. Examples of information to have on hand are verification of household income; proof of residency at a current address; names and ages along with clothing sizes of any children in the household; and a current custody agreement, if applicable.
Calls should be directed to 740-392-8716.
Additional information can be requested by emailing Christine.Moretz@use.salvationarmy.org, or by contacting the Salvation Army at 206 E. Ohio Ave. in Mount Vernon or calling 740-392-8716.
Those who wish to support the Salvation Army’s Christmas efforts can also participate in the annual Toy Ride Fundraiser, a post on the Salvation Army of Mount Vernon’s Facebook page said. The Toy Ride will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10, with registration beginning at 10 a.m. at Mid-Ohio Powersports, located at 494 Harcourt Road in Mount Vernon.
