Ralph O. Baker Jr.

MOUNT VERNON – Ralph O. Baker Jr., 72, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born on July 20, 1948, in Mount Vernon to the late Ralph and Mary (Wolfe) Baker Sr.
Ralph graduated from Mount Vernon High School and joined the United States Army. He was immensely proud and honored to serve his country. He loved flea markets, making crafts out of beads and butterflies. Ralph also loved to tinker around in his garden as he enjoyed his flowers.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Stringfellow; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Baker; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Ralph is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Baker; and a sister, Betty Colin-Hively.
A celebration of life service will take place at a later date.

Keith D. Beitzel

MOUNT VERNON – Keith D. Beitzel, 61, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, 2020, at his home. He was born on Aug. 16, 1959, in Mount Gilead to the late Stanton E. and Esther N. (Rickett) Beitzel.
Keith was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene in Mount Vernon. He retired from the State of Ohio, where he worked for over 24 years as a Maintenance Superintendent. After retirement, Keith went to work for Morrow Manor in Chesterville. In his spare time, Keith enjoyed going fishing with his friends.
Keith is survived by his wife, Penny (Hess) Beitzel; children, Brian Beitzel of Mount Vernon, Nikki Pope of Mount Vernon and Bryce Pope of Centerburg; grandchildren, Alicia, Trinidy and Ethan; siblings, Peggy Dewey of Galion, Ed Beitzel of Arizona, Judy West of Galion, Kenny Beitzel of Bucyrus, Sandy Luckey of Michigan and Roger Beitzel of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by a daughter, Krista Beitzel; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Betty Hess.
The family will have a celebration of life service at a later date.

Eric Lee Bywaters

Eric Lee Bywaters, 69, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born on June 26, 1951, in Knox County to James L. and Louise M. (Cline) Bywaters.
Eric is survived by his mother, Louise Johnson of Mount Vernon; two brothers, Robert Bywaters and Joe Bywaters, both of Mount Vernon; sister, Diana (Ron) Peck of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predceded in death by his father James and a step-father, Ray Johnson.
Friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lasater Funeral Home, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Millwood Cemetery.

Gerald E. Frost

MOUNT VERNON – Gerald E. Frost, 62, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020, at his residence. He was born on June 30, 1958, in Mount Vernon to the late George and Dorothy (Loney) Frost.
Gerald attended Mount Vernon High School, and after worked for Carter Lumber. Later he became self-employed and worked as a handyman. He loved traveling around and going to auctions, and he enjoyed working on cars. Most of all, Gerald loved being around family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Goldie Frost; brothers, James (Gloria) Frost and Steve Frost; several nieces and nephews; and long-time friend Donna Wable.
Along with his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by siblings, William Frost and Geraldine Hawke.

Myrta L. Shellenbarger

Myrta L. Shellenbarger, 89, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 4, 1931, in Knox County to the late Clarence and Melissa (Moreland) Saunders. Myrta enjoyed sewing, playing cards, canning and gardening. But most of all, she loved the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Francis Shellenbarger, John (Patti) Shellenbarger, Nathan (Aleta) Shellenbarger, Colin Shellenbarger; her daughter Rebecca Smith; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Myrta was preceded in death by her husband Francis Shellenbarger; a son Lewis Shellenbarger; four brothers and five sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Ruth E. (Spurgeon) Spittle

HOWARD – Ruth E. (Spurgeon) Spittle, 89, of Howard, passed away on Tuesday evening, Sept. 8, 2020, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. She was born in Coshocton to the late Russell and Mary (Collison) Spurgeon.
Ruth retired from Kenyon College where she worked in the bookstore.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Mary Munnerlyn of Hiram and Sandra Salinas of Columbus; grandchildren, Danielle Spurgeon and Tobias Spittle; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Spurgeon; and a daughter, Kathleen Spurgeon.
The family will have a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Mound View Cemetery with the Rev. Father Daniel Olvera presiding. Ruth will be laid to rest with her son, Stephen.

David Sobers
WESTMINSTER, SC – David Leslie Sobers, 66, of 135 Amy Lane, companion of Laurie McPherson, passed away, Thursday, September 3rd, 2020 at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, he was the son of Helen Lucille Priest Sobers of Fredericktown, Ohio and the late Edwin George. Dave was a retired self- employed handyman, who was a jack of all trades that never met a stranger. Dave had a hardy, contagious laugh that would bring a smile to anyone’s face and was an avid Clemson Football and Nascar fan.
David is survived by his companion of 25 years, Laurie McPherson and his mother, Helen Lucille Priest Sobers and his sons; David Sobers (Dianna), Eric Sobers; daughters, Angie Sobers, Tania Sobers Lawrence (Matt), Lindsey McPherson Zollner (Michael Jr.); sisters, Diane R. Sullivan, Linda S. Lester, Kathy Sechrest, Cheryl Stockdale, Debbie Guisinger, and Bonnie Beeco; nine grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Kona.
In addition to his father, Dave is preceded in death by his brother, Rick Sobers and sister, Kim Snow.
Considering the current pandemic, a private celebration of life service will be announced.

BLADENSBURG – William “Kent” Woodruff, 91, of Bladensburg, passed away September 10, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 29, 1929 in Knox County to Russell and Lena (McPeek) Woodruff.
He is survived by his wife Jean Wright; three children: Robert (Maria) Woodruff, Sharon (Charlie) Hunt, and Larry (Shelly) Woodruff, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
