MOUNT VERNON — Monday’s Knox County grand jury indicted several individuals on stolen property-related cases, spanning from October of last year to May of this year.
The indictments are clustered because the prosecuting attorney’s office is catching up on cases under investigation during the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. Only two of the cases are related, according to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Christine Williams.
Some of the stolen items included a trailer, a mower and double log lifting prongs owned by Liberty Township. Williams said that the equipment was left by the side of the road for use the next day and was taken overnight.
Compton’s charges include four fourth-degree felonies, and two fifth-degree felonies.
Stagg’s charges include three fourth-degree felonies, three fifth-degree felonies, and one first-degree misdemeanor.
Stagg was further indicted on failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a fourth-degree felony, two counts of having weapons while under disability, third-degree felonies, and five counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, third-degree felonies.
The charges stem from Stagg reportedly fleeing from law enforcement on Green Valley Road May 20, Williams said. There is currently an active warrant for his arrest.
Katlyn Zimelis, 30, Danville, was charged with grand theft, a fourth-degree felony, for allegedly stealing $12,138 from the Knox County Humane Society. The bank reportedly noticed that deposits were not being made and alerted the Humane Society’s board, according to Williams.
In Gambier, Corey Offineer, 36, was indicted for arson, a fourth-degree felony.
Offineer allegedly set fire to a neighbor’s outbuilding with gasoline on April 25. Williams shared that a neighbor, who happened to be a firefighter, saw the flames and helped put out the fire. The incident was investigated by the fire marshal.
Jerime Graham-Woods, 29, Mount Vernon, is charged with allegedly assaulting his girlfriend May 23, breaking her nose. The girlfriend went to the hospital for the injury and reported the incident, according to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Nicole Derr.
Graham-Woods was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony.
Other indictments issued by the grand jury: Trisha Sexton, 40, Mount Vernon, grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; Joseph Long, 46, Mount Liberty, grant theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; Larry Ferguson, 30, Gahanna, theft, a fifth-degree felony; Michael Ewers, 43, Mansfield, theft, a fifth-degree felony; Vicky Elkins, 57, Mount Vernon, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; Tiara Vanhouten, 25, Fredericktown, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; Joshua Bias, 43, Centerburg, receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; Brooklyn Miller, 22, Mount Vernon, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; Everett Baughman, 36, Mount Vernon, receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; Larry Fox, 36, Howard, receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; Travis Miller, 37, homeless, possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony, possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor; Christopher Strange, 19, Fredericktown, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; Chase Sherman, 36, Columbus, receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony.
